After arriving in Vilcabamba in 2008
via Costa Rica, Miami and Paris, former television journalist Nathalie
Duffau saw an opportunity to use her background in the service of the
community. Shortly thereafter, she formed Vilcabamba TV, launched a
website, and began shooting, hosting, and editing local news pieces that
now number over 470. The stories have been viewed over 600,000 times and
her online resource is finding a growing audience in Vilcabamba, other
parts of Ecuador, and around the world.
Included in Vilcabamba TV’s news
archives are stories on a local shoeshine boy who Nathalie took under her
wing and raised money for in order to help him eat better and go to school
and Nathalie’s footage of a UFO that appeared over a mountain that she
shot from a window in her home. Other subjects include local events,
interviews with Vilcabamba’s local characters, local sights, love stories,
issues and strange stuff like her UFO story.
Nathalie has found her Shangra La and
looks forward to continuing to let the world know about Vilcabamba’s
beauty, challenges and local color. To tune in, visit
